All of 20, Miss India finalist Vijaya Sharma was not just happy and excited when her name was called out, but was scared at the same time.

She talks to us about her favourite Miss India and how winning Miss India has always been her dream.

How did you feel when they announced your name in top 23?
I feel I am very happy and lucky to be selected in Top 23

Why did you take part in Miss India competition? Did anyone inspire you or you always wanted to be a Miss India?
It's dream of many, achievement of few. I always wanted to become a part of it as it was my childhood dream.

I have the quality of being happy in any situation.

I love doing workouts and playing outdoor sports

Be what you are

What is beauty according to you?
Beauty is the best gift given by God which can be seen all around which has many types and it can be felt from inside.

Any subtitle contests that you are confident of winning in the main pageant?
I am confident to win all of them

Your family was supportive?
My parents have been very much supportive

What advice would you give your city girls who are aspiring beauty queens?
Having physical beauty is a gift but developing inner beauty is an achievement.

If you had one wish, what is the one thing you would ask for?
I will ask for peace and happiness for everyone.

My height

Sagarika Chhetri

Besides conquering the state pageant Miss India Kolkata 2013, Sagarika Chhetri was also the proud winners of Max Femina Miss Fashion Icon, PCJ Femina Miss Timeless Beauty, and Pond's Femina Miss Glowing Skin.

With her encouraging and supportive family, she feels her positive outlook towards her life is what sets her apart from others.

She talks to us about the true meaning of beauty, her fitness secrets and her preparations for the dream title.

How did you feel when they announced your name in top 23?
When I won Femina Miss India Kolkata 2013, I got a direct entry in Miss India. Of course the feeling was extremely beautiful, my joy knew no bounds but when they announced top 23 contestants and asked us to line up that was the moment for me! Felt honored and privileged to be a Miss India Contestant in its 50th glorious year and then I told myself my journey has begun!

Why did you take part in Miss India competition? Did anyone inspire you or you always wanted to be a Miss India?
Sometimes few inspirational words are enough to start believing in yourself even more and making that right move when opportunity awaits and that's exactly what happened to me. I am very fortunate as Miss India was an opportunity that came my way. I grabbed that opportunity, worked harder towards it and here I am to showcase my talent on this beautiful platform. And after winning Miss Kolkata it has been my dream to wear that tiara and be announced the next Miss India 2013.

Your Favourite Miss India till date..
Every Miss India has inspired me in their own way with their talent and beauty. But I have to admit Aishwarya Rai has been my all time favourite. Her beauty is breathtaking and the way she composes herself sets her apart from everyone else. The way she has represented India globally, I aspire to do the same. She is a great source of inspiration to me!

Tell us what sets you apart?
My determination and confidence is what sets me apart.

Share your fitness regime and diet secrets
Regular exercise and a proper diet are very important for healthy lifestyle. I workout and do yoga whenever possible which keeps me fresh. I believe in eating the right food at the right time. I also drink lots of water for a healthy glowing skin.

Any special winning strategy/success mantra?
Being myself and giving my best shot throughout the journey will be my strategy to crack the pageant and I am very confident of winning it!

What is beauty according to you?
Beauty lies within. A person with a beautiful soul and a genuine personality is truly beautiful.

Any subtitle contests that you are confident of winning in the main pageant?
Given a chance, I would love to aim on all the subtitles but I don't want to restrict myself by aiming on any title in particular. I want to give my best shot and let's see what all subtitles I take home!

Your family was supportive?
Yes my family is the only reason I am here today. They were so encouraging and supportive that it boosted up my confidence even more and I really feel blessed I have them by my side throughout my journey.

What advice would you give your city girls who are aspiring beauty queens?
Believe in yourself and have your goals set so high with your determination and strong will that there will be no way your talent would go unnoticed. And I would end it by saying, yes dreams do come true! So go for it!

If you had one wish, what is the one thing you would ask for?
I would take away all the hatred and violence that exists on planet earth and spread love and happiness to make our world a beautiful place to live in.

What do you like most about yourself?
I am a very adaptable person. I can adapt and adjust to new things, people, places very soon and make a beautiful new world for me wherever I go. Hence, my friendly attitude and my positive outlook towards everyone always bring a smile on my face and others too. That's what I like the most about myself.

Any final thoughts?
A person is like a treasure box and his/her jewel of talent is hidden in the treasure box of life and one has to find the right combination to open it. I am here to discover my talents, abilities and have the time of my life. I am all geared up to win the coveted title and make my country proud!!

FOR WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE

As part of its continuous efforts in strengthening its relationship with the women consumers, Godrej Eon announced the Woman of Substance Award in association with Pond's Femina Miss India 2013 on Women's Day last week. Present at the event were Kamal Nandi, executive VP, sales & marketing, Godrej Appliances, Ramesh Chembath, associate VP marketing & modern trade, Godrej Appliances and Miss India International 2012 Rochelle Maria Rao. Rochelle spoke about this unique contest initiated by Godrej Appliances and the cause of women against the background of Women's Day and also felicitated former first runner up of the Woman of Courage Award 2010, Shweta Chari.

Unlike a beauty pageant which seeks to felicitate women on the basis of beauty and overall personality, this award will honour women from amongst millions of ordinary Indian women. These are the women who do not make headlines but through their silent efforts, they have enriched their own lives or made a difference in the lives of those around them and sometimes even taken up the mantle of social causes bravely, without bothering about accolades and adversity.

Kamal Nandi commented, "We believe technology is meant to make life convenient and provide us with the time to enrich our lives by pursuing our passion. It should enable our women consumers to step beyond and lead more fulfilled lives. This initiative will help us build a better connect with our target audience — the Indian women, who deserve to be seen in their new avatar. Also a partner like Pond's Femina Miss India 2013 brings credibility and stature to the initiative."

Rochelle added, "There are several women of substance who have enriched lives around them. This contest is meant to felicitate these seemingly ordinary women who have gone far beyond the realms of ordinary and I am extremely happy to be part of this unique initiative."

The Miss India pageant intends to provide a platform to many aspiring Indian women to realise their dreams and start living beauty instead of admiring it from a distance. To ensure national representation at the pageant and to encourage participation of contestants from all across India in its 50th year, auditions and selections were initiated from all regions across India, with seven city pageants that were held in Pune, Goa, Indore, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Delhi. The winner of the Woman of Substance will be awarded at the grand finale of the Pond's Femina Miss India 2013, scheduled for March 24 in Mumbai.
